Last year on Thanksgiving, my younger brother’s life was taken by severe complications of diabetes.

Before taking him off the vent, we were told he had no brain function at all. He was 45. My mother had to make the decision to donate his organs. He donated both lungs, liver, and corneas.

My mom has received letters from 2 of the recipients so far, and this gave her peace that my brother’s death was not the end, part of him still lives on to help others.

Now I am making the decision to do the same if anything happens to me, so she and the rest of my family know my wish is to also be an organ donor. I am a nurse, and I want to be able to help people even after I die.
