At 18, with a new diploma from Troy Athens High School, Tim Parker had his whole life ahead of him. Instead, he gave life to seven others.

The designated driver fell asleep while taking two friends home from a party in June 2007. After crossing five lanes of traffic, Tim’s truck collided with a semi.

His parents got the dreaded call, and two days later Tim was declared brain dead. They then found themselves with a decision to make. It was easy: Tim was a giver. They knew he’d want to donate his organs to help save others.

“We knew his wishes and, for our family, it was absolutely the right thing to do,” said his mom, Lynn Parker. “Tim and I had had the conversation about organ donation and Tim had always intended to (register to be a donor.)”

The Parkers found real comfort in the organ donation process.

“We could envision the people on the other side getting the phone call that would forever change their lives,” Parker said. “That helped keep us going during that time.”
