I Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” These words from Scripture Don believed with all his heart and lived for the Lord from the time he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at the age of eight. Now he lives the words of the famous hymn, Face to Face with God My Savior, as Don entered eternity at the age of 68 to dwell with His Lord forever. Don’s passions while here on earth were his service to others and his desire for all to experience the unconditional love of God. He was acutely aware of the needs of others, but foremost his wish was that they would know his Lord as their own personal Savior. Don was a life-long learner, knowledgeable on a vast array of subjects. However, the study of the Scriptures was his major focus. He cherished the fellowship of other Christian believers, often being called upon to teach both children and adults. The heart transplant team worked diligently to keep Don’s heart working, but he never did qualify for a transplant of his own. Realizing the importance of transplants, Don’s desire was to continue to serve others after his own death by giving of himself so that others could live and hopefully find Jesus as their Savior, too. A fifty-year old man can see today because of Don; a fifteen-year old girl had spinal surgery for severe scoliosis; a sixty-five year old man had a hip replacement- the list goes on and on as to how Don continues to serve his fellow man. In Scripture can be found God’s many promises to believers, one of which is Revelation 2:10, “Be faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” God promised; Don was faithful; the crown is his to receive!
