Richard Drake Sr.

“God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you helped His people.” Heb 6:10

A Snapshot of the Man we love

Richard was a man of great personal integrity who commanded the respect of all who knew him. He was raised on a dairy farm in Bancroft, MI and farmed for 10 years after marriage to his wife, JoAnn, in 1963.

The sale of the farm in 1972 marked a huge transition in his life. He began working as a self taught tool and die maker at a small shop in Fenton and then was employed with General Motors-Buick for 24 years until his retirement in 2008.

He will be remember by many an elder at Trinity Assembly of God for over 17 years. The many visits to those sick and hospitalized over the years testify to his love for those in need of care. He traveled around the world on mission trips- Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, Philadelphia, and even in his own backyard- Freedom Center in Flint. He was the first to grab a hammer and the last to lay it down. He showed his love by his works. Friends said of him “He couldn’t hear of a need without trying to meet it.” When called for help he would be out the door to give assistance before the conversation ended. Being a man of his word, his commitments were seen through to completion. The words “no”, “can’t”, or “I couldn’t” were not in his vocabulary. Duct tape and the “persuader” were every day tools for Richard.

Richard was a strong and faithful Christian who lived what he believed. He took great pride in being an American. His faith was unwavering and when he had a problem he turned to God for answers. He was an honorable, respected man who will be missed more than words can say.

We love you.
