Timothy George Bechaz
A Big Rapids football coach had just finished with practice. His wife met him for a quick supper at Wendys before going home to do chores on the farm. Little did they know as they laughed and joked and bottle fed the calves that it would be the last night they would spend together.
The next day, August 30, 2000, she was asked to leave her 7th grade classroom and to take a call that would change her life forever. Her husband, Timothy Bechaz, 49 years old, had been critically injured in an explosion at work. When it as evident that he would not survive, Gift of Life asked about organ donation.
In Arizona, John Munjoy was running out of time and needed a heart transplant. He received Tim’s heart on August 31, 2000 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Since this time, our families have met and John and his wife, Evelyn, even attended my daughters weeding in Greer, Arizona. I have felt Tim’s heart beating strongly in Johns chest, giving him time for the joy of his children’s weddings and grandchildren. Also, I have found peace knowing that out of our tragedy gave continuing life and happiness for the Munjoy family.
This quilt square is dedicated, “Heart to Heart” to both families with love.
