Nurse Donation Champions Council

Strong relationships and collaboration with nurses at donor hospitals are crucial to building a culture of donation that supports organ and tissue donation statewide. That results in more opportunities for patients and their families to give their final gifts to patients in need. From the first patient referral to caring for the donor family, nurses are a constant resource. Gift of Life cannot move donation forward without them.

This Nursing Donation Champion Council will have a platform to share best practices, address common issues and take on projects that might increase donation and improve the experience for everyone.

The group will meet monthly (the last Tuesday at 4:00 PM), and cover topics including:

• Overview of Gift of Life Michigan and donation.
• The referral process and required information.
• The donation process.
• Gift of Life staff on-site and their roles.
• Continuing care for donors and families.

As a Gift of Life donation champion, you will act as a steward of donation within your unit/hospital by helping your peers and working with care team members and Gift of Life to advocate for donation with hospital leadership.
