Transplant community works together to improve efficiencies

The transplant community is continually working to solve a complex equation that involves time, distance and patient-donor compatibility to improve care and save lives. A lot of that work on increasing efficiencies takes place behind the scenes.

Walter Herczyk, Laboratory Administrative Director at Gift of Life Michigan, who also serves as chair of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) IT Advisory Committee and the Network Operations Oversight Committee of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Board of Directors, said the collaborative nature of the organizations involved helps make innovation possible.

“The practice of continually involving the community ensures that UNOS is engaged with the pulse of the people involved with organ allocation, and it provides another prospective to help the organization focus on the needs of the community,” he said.
