50 Years of Partnership in Honoring Life Through Donation

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Gift of Life CEO Dorrie Dils, Assistant Secretary of State Heaster Wheeler with framed tribute

More than 95 percent of people on the Michigan Organ Donor Registry signed up to donate life while they were getting (or renewing) their driver’s license or state ID.

Our incredible partners at the Michigan Department of State play an integral role in the organ, eye, and tissue donation process. They are usually the first people to bring the idea up, and often provide important information to those who have questions or concerns.

Although September is National DMV Appreciation Month, at Gift of Life we celebrate our partners at the Secretary of State every single day. Through their efforts over the past 50 years, millions of Michigan residents have made the decision to become donors and to join the Donor Registry.

So it was with great pride that we received this beautiful framed tribute from Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Assistant Secretary Heaster Wheeler at our 50th Anniversary celebration. We’re excited to hang it on our wall, to show visitors the power of partnership and collaboration to save and heal lives.
